Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Jose Pimentel ("we", "us", "our"), the operator of the Maranatha dating application and website (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into this agreement.
You must not be barred from using the Service under applicable law. You represent that you have never been convicted of a felony or any sex-related or violent crime, and that you are not required to register as a sex offender with any government entity.
You may maintain only one account, and you must provide accurate information, including your real date of birth, gender, and likeness in your photos.

2. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use. You may delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account).

3. The Service

Maranatha helps adults in the Seventh-day Adventist community discover and communicate with one another. We provide tools for matching, messaging, and safety, but we do not guarantee that you will find a match, and we are not responsible for the conduct of any user, online or offline.

4. Community guidelines and acceptable use

To keep the community safe and respectful, you agree that you will not:

Harass, threaten, defame, or harm any person, or post hateful, violent, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable content.
Impersonate anyone, create fake profiles, or misrepresent your identity, age, or marital availability.
Solicit money, run scams, advertise, or use the Service for any commercial or non-dating purpose.
Attempt to evade contact-information filtering or safety features, or move users off-platform to defraud or harm them.
Upload content you do not have the right to share, or that infringes others' rights.
Use bots, scrape data, reverse-engineer, or interfere with the security or operation of the Service.

There is zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior on the Service. You can report objectionable content or abusive users from any profile or message using the in-app report and block tools. We review reports and will act on them — removing offending content and ejecting the user who provided it — within 24 hours. We may moderate, remove content, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, with or without notice.

5. Your content

You retain ownership of the content you submit (such as photos and profile text). You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and distribute that content as needed to operate and promote the Service, consistent with our Privacy Policy. You are responsible for your content and represent that you have the rights to share it.

If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, send a notice to support@maranatha.dating identifying the work and the infringing content. We will review and remove infringing content, and may terminate repeat infringers.

6. Photo moderation and verification

Uploaded photos are automatically screened for prohibited content before becoming visible, and you may be asked to verify your identity with a selfie. You agree to this screening and review as a condition of using the Service. We may withhold or remove content that fails review.

7. Safety

Use caution. We do not conduct criminal background checks on users. A "Verified" badge confirms a photo review only and is not a guarantee of a person's identity, character, or safety. You are solely responsible for your interactions with other users. Take precautions, especially when meeting someone in person: meet in public, tell a friend, and never send money. Report concerning behavior using the in-app report and block tools.

8. Subscriptions and payments

Core matching features are free. Certain premium features may require a paid subscription when paid plans are enabled. During promotional periods, some or all premium features may be offered free, and this may change over time.
Subscriptions are auto-renewing. Payment is charged to your Apple App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. Unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, the subscription automatically renews at the then-current price, and your account is charged for renewal.
You can manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Except where required by law or by the applicable app store's policies, payments are non-refundable. Refund requests are handled by Apple or Google under their terms.
For purchases made through the Apple App Store, Apple's Standard End User License Agreement (EULA) also applies to your use of the app.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or to protect the Service or its users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law) will survive.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY MATCH OR INTERACTION WILL MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE OR FROM ANY USER CONDUCT. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR USD $50.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or the rights of others.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Rhode Island, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that the state and federal courts located in Rhode Island will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute not otherwise resolved, except where prohibited by applicable law.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the "Last updated" date; material changes may be communicated in the app. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
